The success of Dhurandhar is no longer just a box office story. It is now actively shaping the creative direction of its sequel. Filmmaker Aditya Dhar has returned to the drawing board for Dhurandhar 2, planning selective reshoots that will bring Akshaye Khanna back on screen after the overwhelming response to his character, Rehman Dakait.

While Dhurandhar delivered a historic theatrical run, its post-release life has been equally loud online. Among discussions around scale, action and storytelling, one character consistently dominated fan conversations. Rehman Dakait, played with chilling restraint by Akshaye Khanna, emerged as one of the film’s most talked-about elements. His controlled menace, carefully measured silences and sharply written dialogue beats struck a deep chord with viewers.

Social media quickly filled with fan edits, theory threads and repeated demands for more of Rehman Dakait. Many viewers felt the character’s screen time barely scratched the surface of his potential. The response was organic and sustained, the kind that filmmakers rarely ignore.

Adding fuel to the fire was Akshaye Khanna’s unexpected appearance in the viral track Fa9la by Flipperachi. His brief but arresting dance moments in the song exploded across platforms, introducing the character to newer audiences and reigniting interest among existing fans. What began as a cameo moment soon became part of the larger Rehman Dakait conversation.

Industry sources confirm that Dhurandhar 2, which had already wrapped its principal shoot, will now undergo selective additional filming. The reshoots are expected to begin toward the end of this month and will be personally supervised by Aditya Dhar. These sequences will specifically involve Akshaye Khanna, marking a rare instance where audience response has directly influenced post-shoot creative decisions.

The move is especially intriguing because Rehman Dakait does not survive the events of the first film. His death was definitive, making his return in the sequel a narrative challenge. That challenge, however, also opens new storytelling possibilities. Insiders suggest the sequel may rely on extended flashbacks, diving deeper into Dakait’s past, his rise within the film’s world, and the moral choices that shaped his journey.

Known for layered writing and controlled narrative expansions, Dhar appears focused on enriching the Dhurandhar universe rather than rewriting its foundations. The goal seems to be depth, not damage control.

Dhurandhar 2 is slated for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026. With targeted additions now underway, the sequel is shaping up as a response not just to box office numbers, but to something rarer in modern cinema: sustained, vocal audience demand.
