Malti Chahar, a notable participant from the recently finished Bigg Boss 19, recently spoke about her distressing experiences with the casting couch in the movie industry. In a straightforward interview, the actress-director disclosed two distinct occurrences: one where a South Indian director invited her to a private space pretending it was a meeting, and another where a director tried to kiss her without her consent.
This is how she managed those circumstances and her message for others in the field.
Malti Chahar joined the Bigg Boss 19 house during the season as a wildcard entry. Deepak Chahar's sister, a well-known Indian cricketer, faced strong competition from many but was eliminated before reaching the finale. Upon leaving the house, she participated in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. During the candid discussion, she shared her experiences of being involved in the Indian film industry and facing the casting couch.
Malti remembered a distressing experience after a script reading with a notable producer and director from South India. Soon after the meeting, the director contacted her, asking for a follow-up meeting in his hotel room. Feeling that something was amiss, Malti declined the invitation.
The director insisted on meeting her privately and told her, “Malti, samjho; industry mein aise nahi chalta hai" (Malti, understand; this isn't how it operates in the industry).
Regarding another distressing occurrence, Malti mentioned that a prominent director attempted to kiss her when she offered him a friendly hug as a courteous gesture.
"Jab unse milti hoon toh side se hug karti hoon, toh maine bhi side se hug kiya, aur unhone mujhe kiss karne ki koshish ki," she said. (When I met him, I hugged him sideways but he tried to kiss me.)
Due to the individual's advanced age, Malti admitted she erred in viewing him as a father figure. Malti believes the event taught her a significant lesson: to not see anyone as her father other than her own and to keep her distance from them.
