Excerpts from the Interview:
Ques: What drew you to comedy with SKIBIDI after Toofan Mail?
Akriti: Maybe because I love a good challenge and comedy is THE most challenging genre, especially in acting. I have been directing comedy on stage for a while now.
Most of my comedy plays are houseful and testing the material on a live audience, gave me a lot of confidence about writing comedy.
Eight Down Toofan was inspired by real life incidents, yet it had its humour and wit. I enjoy writing, performing & directing comedy. My next film SKIBIDI is an out & out comedy.
Ques: Did your acting background influence how you worked with this cast?
Akriti: Yes. For one it helps me understand how actors think / approach a role, a scene or a story.
SKIBIDI has an ensemble cast and it is because of my background in acting that I could make my actors develop a rare kind of chemistry & camaraderie during the workshops that we did pre-shoot. Because of which the scenes just sizzle on screen.

Ques: What was the most unexpected learning on this film?
Akriti: SKIBIDI is shot 90% outdoors and the unexpected learning is if you find six people laughing at six different places on a road, they are probably shooting a movie.
Ques: How do you balance being an independent filmmaker with mainstream storytelling?
Akriti: I don’t categorise my work. Also mainstream these days could be a ‘viral reel’ shot by one person in a room. It is so wonderful to see how the structures are changing and giving way to a new cinema. My upcoming film SKIBIDI is something that has never been tried on Indian screens.
Ques: Can you share insights about your upcoming projects?
Akriti: I am working on adapting a murder mystery novel on film.
