In December 2024, Vikrant Massey found himself at the centre of a storm he never intended to create.
A brief social media post, written at a moment of deep exhaustion, sparked rumours that the National Award-winning actor was retiring from films altogether.
For an artist riding high on the success of 12th Fail, the idea felt shocking to fans and industry peers alike. But as Vikrant Massey later explained, the truth was far more human — and far more relatable.
Appearing on Times Now’s 20th Anniversary Special Broadcast, Vikrant Massey spoke with striking honesty about what really led to the decision. He acknowledged that the limited nature of social media worked against him.
“X pe jitney bhi limited shabd aapko milte hain, usme mene sari imformation bharne ki koshish ki and now we know ki sari information pahochi nahi. A lot of it was misconstrued. I just wanted to take a break. I was facing a severe burnout at that time," he said.
There was no grand farewell, only a man asking for space to breathe.
Behind the scenes, Vikrant Massey had been running on empty. Juggling four demanding films in one year, including 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report, meant living inside intense characters for months on end. The long hours were draining, but the emotional weight proved heavier.
He admitted that he could feel his performances slipping into repetition, a realisation that deeply unsettled him. Rather than pushing through for the sake of momentum, Vikrant Massey chose to pause and reconnect with the craft that first drew him to acting.
Vikrant Massey became a father during this relentless phase, and the joy of welcoming his son, Vardaan, was accompanied by a quiet ache.
He missed milestones most parents treasure, watching his child’s first steps and first words through videos sent by his wife, Sheetal Thakur. “What’s the point of success if you can’t enjoy the moments you’re working for?" he asked, recalling the heartbreak of hearing his son say “Papa" for the first time when he was not there.

The seven-month break that followed was less about escape and more about presence. Vikrant Massey chose to be a husband, a father and, finally, himself again, accepting that careers can pause but childhood cannot.
Now refreshed and grounded, his professional path continues. He will next be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo, releasing on 13 February 2026, and is also stepping into a new role as producer with Netflix’s Musafir Cafe — a project he calls a “new phase” in a journey shaped as much by life as by cinema.
