Actor Varun Dhawan has once again proven that he knows how to meet the internet on its own terms — with humour, ease and a healthy dose of self-awareness.

When his smile recently turned into a viral meme, the actor didn’t bristle or retreat. Instead, he laughed along, turning online trolling into a moment of shared amusement.

The light-hearted moment unfolded when Varun Dhawan went live on Instagram on Wednesday while travelling to the Karwar Naval Base to promote his upcoming film Border 2.

Accompanied by singer Vishal Mishra, the live session quickly became a relaxed, behind-the-scenes interaction that fans rarely get to see.

As viewers joined in, Varun Dhawan acknowledged the viral chatter around his expression without a trace of discomfort. Smiling at Vishal Mishra, he said, “I know my smile is trending.”

Referring to the much-talked-about one-sided grin, he burst into laughter, instantly setting a playful tone for the session. Vishal Mishra joined in, and the moment soon became one of spontaneous fun rather than awkward scrutiny.

Taking the joke further, Varun Dhawan encouraged Vishal Mishra to try recreating the now-famous smile. He even coached him through it, saying, “Phele pura smile aur phir ek ko gira do (Give full smile and drop your smile from one side).”

What stood out most was Varun Dhawan’s perspective on the situation. Instead of focusing on criticism, he expressed gratitude for the collective joy it sparked. “No no, I am happy and smiling ke pura Hindustan smile kar raha hai mere saath (I am happy that the whole of India was smiling along with him),” he said, striking a tone that resonated with many fans.

This isn’t the first time Varun Dhawan has addressed online criticism with grace. Earlier, when a social media user questioned his acting skills in a Border 2 song, the actor responded with calm confidence.

To the comment, “Bhai apka acting pe sawal utha raha hai log uske liyeee kya bolega (Bro, people are raising questions on your acting skills. What would you say about that)?”, he replied, “@sahjaan_18 yehi sawaal ne gaana hit karadi sab enjoy kar rahe hain rab di mehar. (This question made the song a hit. Everyone is enjoying it. God is great).”

On the work front, Varun Dhawan will next be seen in Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, alongside Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film, a follow-up to the iconic 1997 war drama Border, is slated for release on January 23.

His most recent outing, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Janhvi Kapoor, failed to meet expectations at the box office.
