The much-debated sequel, The Kerala Story 2, has run into fresh turbulence after the Kerala High Court ordered a 15-day stay on its release on Thursday, just hours before its scheduled theatrical debut on February 27, 2026.
However, even after the judicial directive, confusion continues to swirl online as several cinema listings still appear to show the film available for booking.
Reports indicate that while leading multiplex chains such as PVR Cinemas, INOX, and Cinepolis are not displaying any active shows of the film on major ticketing platforms like BookMyShow and District, several other cinema chains appear to still have screenings listed.
As of Friday morning, BookMyShow continued to display show slots for The Kerala Story 2 across multiple locations. In Mumbai, nearly all Maxus Cinemas outlets were showing the film as available, with the platform indicating that 21 theatres in the city were still selling tickets. In Delhi, 14 theatres — including M2K, G3S, and MSX Cinemas — were listed as screening the film on Friday.
A search for the film on BookMyShow not only shows available time slots but also provides format options such as DOLBY 7.1 and LASER screenings. Ticket prices range from Rs 80 for silver, gold, and platinum categories, and Rs 100 for sofa seats. Premium pricing goes up to Rs 230 for silver, Rs 260 for gold, and Rs 550 for platinum tickets.
However, when users attempt to complete a booking, they encounter a message stating: “Sorry! Something is not right. It seems seats are sold out, hence we can’t proceed further. Please check another show.”
The apparent contradiction between the court’s stay order and the ticket listings has left netizens perplexed. Taking to X, one user wrote, "@BookMyShow the Kerala High Court has stayed the release of The Kerala Story 2. Yet your platform is selling tickets. Is this ignorance of a court order or deliberate defiance?"
Meanwhile, several cinema chains have publicly clarified on social media that the film has not officially been released.
Adding another legal layer to the unfolding controversy, a report by Bar and Bench stated that petitioners are preparing to move the Kerala High Court seeking contempt proceedings against the producers of Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond. The plea reportedly alleges that tickets remain available on BookMyShow despite a subsisting single-bench stay on the film’s release.
The interim stay came after petitions were filed against the film following the release of its teaser. Among the petitioners is biologist Sreedev Namboodiri, who approached the High Court seeking either a complete halt to the film’s release and public exhibition or directions to the central government to consider a pending revision plea within a specified time frame.

The petition argues that the film includes malicious and stereotypical assertions that allegedly defame the entire state of Kerala without substantiated evidence. It further claims that the narrative seeks to single out Kerala and present the filmmaker’s perceived concerns as factual reality. Taking these concerns into account, the High Court issued a 15-day stay order just ahead of the film’s planned release.
On Thursday night, however, the High Court agreed to hear the producers’ appeal challenging the interim stay, offering a glimmer of hope that the legal impasse might be resolved in time for the film’s eventual release.
