After a long speculation, T-Series has officially denied rumours linking the upcoming Akshay Kumar film Bhooth Bangla with the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, clarifying that the two projects are completely independent and share nothing in terms of scripted content or franchise rights.
The clarification comes amid online speculation that an older draft intended for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 had been repurposed for Bhooth Bangla, which is scheduled to release on April 10, 2026.
As per reports, the early drafts of the sequel to the popular horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) were being used as the basis for Bhooth Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar and directed by Priyadarshan.
These claims circulated widely online and prompted confusion among fans of the franchise.
In response, Shiv Chanana, co-producer at T-Series — the studio that owns
the Bhool Bhulaiyaa Intellectual Property — addressed the speculation directly.
As quoted by Indian Today, Shiv said the studio had never received any script from Priyadarshan or his team for creating a Bhool Bhulaiyaa movie with Akshay Kumar, and insisted that such reports were inaccurate. He emphasised that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 were conceived and developed independently under T-Series’ supervision, with no narrative or script reuse linking them to Bhooth Bangla.
“We have also come across some articles, but the fact is we have never received any script from Mr Priyadarshan or his team for making a Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise,” he said.
“It is our franchise. If anything has to be developed, it will be developed by us and under our supervision, which is exactly how Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 were made. I don’t understand where these stories are coming from—this was never the case.”
