Veteran actor Supriya Pathak has voiced her support for Deepika Padukone amid the ongoing debate around the actress’ reported demand for an eight-hour work shift in the film industry. The discussion around fixed working hours has sparked conversations about work-life balance, especially for women in Bollywood.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Supriya Pathak expressed that she understands and supports the idea behind the demand. She highlighted that women often manage several responsibilities simultaneously and therefore deserve better working conditions and balanced schedules.

When asked about her views on the 8-hour work shift demand by Deepika Padukone, Supriya Pathak said, “As an actor, I am the one facing the audience. And when you face an audience, you need to be prepared. If you don’t give me the time to prepare myself, how will I face them? So I think it’s very important that actors, whether male or female, are given the time to prepare."

Supriya added, “I feel our brains are thinking about twenty things at the same time, while a man’s brain often focuses on one thing. Their challenges are different, ours are different, which is why we need balance."

She concluded, “I believe women are empowered within themselves. Sometimes we just don’t ignite that power. But if we get even a small spark, we can become a very powerful firecracker."

The debate around Deepika’s eight-hour workday reportedly gained attention after discussions about her film commitments and working conditions surfaced online.

Since then, several celebrities have shared their opinions on the matter, turning it into a larger conversation about labour practices and work culture within the entertainment industry.

Supriya’s remarks also touched upon women’s empowerment and motivation. According to the veteran actor, women are already strong and capable of achieving anything they set their minds to. However, she believes that sometimes they simply need encouragement or the right environment to fully realise their potential.

Praises daughter-in-law Mira Kapoor

During the interview she also opened up about her warm and affectionate relationship with Mira Rajput Kapoor, revealing that she considers her daughter-in-law no less than her own child. The actor shared that Mira holds a very special place in her life and that their bond is built on love, understanding and mutual respect.

“Mira ek itni beautiful aur itni heart wise itni sundar bacha hai woh, ki hume kabhi aisa laga hi nahi ki she’s walked into our house. I think she was part of our house mujhe toh, kabhi kabhi Mira se hasti bhi ho ki, tu kahi khoyi hui bachi thi humari agayi hai wapis aisa wala hi mehsoos hota hai.”
