Bollywood actor Sunny Deol recently experienced a deeply moving moment that went far beyond cinema, as he met the family of Param Vir Chakra awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, whose story is brought to life in Border 2.
The meeting, which took place amid the film’s ongoing promotions, became a quiet yet powerful reminder of the real people behind India’s war heroes.
Taking to Instagram, Sunny Deol shared a photograph with Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon’s family and expressed his emotions in a heartfelt note.
The actor described the encounter as warm and unforgettable, acknowledging not just the heroism of the fallen officer, but also the silent strength carried by his loved ones over generations.
“It was a privilege to meet the family of our hero Param Vir Chakra Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, being portrayed by @diljitdosanjh, whose true story of unmatched bravery you will see in the film. Meeting his family was so warm and memorable. #Border2 is a salute to all soldiers and their families who carry their legacy with quiet courage.”
Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only Indian Air Force officer to be awarded the Param Vir Chakra, laid down his life during the 1971 India–Pakistan war while defending Srinagar airbase.
His courage remains a source of national pride, and in Border 2, his legacy is portrayed by Diljit Dosanjh, adding emotional depth to the film’s narrative.
Directed and co-written by Anurag Singh, Border 2 serves as a sequel to J.P. Dutta’s iconic 1997 film Border. While the original focused primarily on the Indian Army, the sequel widens its lens to present a multi-front war story, highlighting the combined efforts of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta under T-Series Films and J.P. Films.
