Jaya Bachchan’s sharp remarks about paparazzi dressing “in drain-pipe type gande-gande pants” and behaving unprofessionally have continued to trigger reactions across Bollywood. Days after the veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP expressed her displeasure with photographers, fellow actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha weighed in with humour and warmth rather than criticism.
Shatrghan, who attended a launch event in Mumbai alongside actress Poonam Dhillon, surprised many by offering a light and friendly comment to the paparazzi present. Known for his genial public persona and trademark punchlines, he addressed the photographers with a smile, saying, “Aap log pant bhi achhi pehente hain aur shirt bhi achhi pehente hain.”
Poonam Dhillon, amused by the exchange, added that with such positivity, it felt like “the new year has already begun.”
The incident comes in the wake of Jaya Bachchan’s latest criticism of paparazzi conduct, which reignited long-running debates about celebrity privacy and media boundaries. In her earlier comments, she had questioned why photographers did not present themselves more formally at public events. While expressing her discomfort, she said many turned up wearing “bahar drain-pipe type gande-gande pants pehen kar, haath mein mobile le kar,” adding that simply holding a mobile phone did not grant anyone the authority to click pictures or pass remarks.
