Actor Adarsh Gourav, who first came into the spotlight playing the young Shah Rukh Khan in My Name Is Khan, recently opened up about the moment he finally met Shah Rukh Khan — and it was more touching than he ever expected.
Their first meeting happened nearly two years after My Name Is Khan was released, at a gathering hosted at Amitabh Bachchan’s house, Prateeksha, in Mumbai “it was insane." Adarsh recalled spotting SRK across the room and mustering the courage to approach him. Just as he was about to speak, Shah Rukh interrupted him — not with a simple greeting, but with genuine praise for Adarsh’s work.
"I somehow summoned the courage and walked up to him. I was just about to open my mouth when he launched into this whole thing, saying, 'Main tereko batata hoon tu kaun hai!' Adarsh said, describing how SRK began recounting his performance in the series Guns & Gulaabs with impressive detail. The actor was taken aback that SRK not only knew his work, but could recall specifics, making the moment deeply meaningful. "That's when it really hit me," Adarsh says.
"I kept thinking, how does he have the time? This man sleeps for four hours, works for 18 hours, and still knows who I am."
Adarsh admitted he was teary-eyed during the conversation, overwhelmed by both the depth of SRK’s compliments and the time he took to speak with him. "I was so shocked by what was happening that I was completely teary-eyed," he admits. "I didn't imagine this moment would play out like this."
The exchange lasted about 40 minutes, during which SRK didn’t rush away despite the crowd and festivities around them. It ended with an emotional moment when Adarsh asked if he could hug the superstar — and SRK agreed.
Adarsh, who will next be seen in the creature thriller Tu Yaa Mein releasing on February 13, said the interaction reshaped how he views success and humility in the film industry. Meeting someone whose work he admired since childhood, and being seen and valued in return, was a milestone he won’t soon forget.
