Actress Yami Gautam has been receiving widespread praise for her performance in the film Haq, which recently began streaming on Netflix following its theatrical release. Among the many celebrities applauding her work, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is the latest to express her admiration.

Samantha took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday to laud Yami’s portrayal of Shazia Bano in the film.

Sharing her heartfelt reaction, she wrote, “I had to write this the moment the film ended because I was scared I’d lose even a fraction of what it made me feel. Stories like this are rare. So deeply human. So layered. So free of judgment or bias. And even rarer when they’re brought alive by an actor of this caliber @yamigautam."

She further added, “@reshunath your writing stayed with me. @yamigautam your performance moved me in ways I can’t fully explain. I felt everything all at once. Love. Rage. Strength. Vulnerability. Hope."

Samantha went on to note that films like Haq are the very reason she loves being a part of the film industry. She also congratulated director Suparn Verma for narrating the story with such sensitivity and impact.

“This is cinema. This is the reason we do what we do. This is why we keep choosing this path, through every high and every low. Grateful, thankyou,” she wrote, before adding, “@suparnverma BIGGEST congratulations to you on telling this story so beautifully," she concluded.

Haq is based on the story of Bano, a woman who seeks justice through the legal system after her husband marries his first love and refuses to provide financial support for their children.

Directed by Suparn Verma, the film stars Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles, with Sheeba Chaddha playing a pivotal part. The film draws inspiration from the landmark Supreme Court judgment in Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum, which addressed matrimonial rights within Muslim households.

While Haq did not fare well at the box office and earned only Rs 29 crore during its theatrical run, it has received strong appreciation from audiences after its OTT premiere on January 2. Several celebrities, including Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt, have also given a shoutout to Yami Gautam’s performance and the film.
