Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has recently made history by becoming the first director to represent the film industry during the Republic Day celebration. His tableau celebrated India's storytelling heritage and its cinematic journey.

The filmmaker designed the Republic Day tableau for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under his creative vision. The tableau is decorated with antique film equipment, including a massive golden movie camera and film reels that curve elegantly along the sides.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has previously revealed that his tableau is officially titled, "Bharat Gatha" (The Saga of India). It is a massive tribute to Indian cinema, which was part of the 2026 Republic Day parade.

The filmmaker reflects his distinctive "larger-than-life" style through his tableau, merging contemporary cinema with India's age-old storytelling customs.

Another highlight of the 2026 Republic Day parade was Shreya Ghoshal’s performance that captured audiences’ hearts.

The tableau featured elaborate sculptures of old professors and sages sitting in a tranquil, natural setting with a green tree, symbolising the origins of Indian knowledge and oral traditions.

Meanwhile, the main part of the tableau has a "Box Office" sign and a "Coming Soon" marquee. It looks like a grand, golden movie theatre exterior with elaborate pillars.

The performers elevated the parade as they were dressed in vibrant traditional orange and red costumes, dancing atop and beside the tableau.

The entire exhibition was based on the Ashoka Lion capital and the Ministry's name in Hindi. Additionally, it flawlessly blended India's rich cultural legacy with the renowned film industry.
