Rani Mukerji recently marked a major milestone as she completed 30 years in the film industry. As she prepares for the release of her upcoming film Mardaani 3, the actor sat down for an in-depth conversation with filmmaker and longtime friend Karan Johar, reflecting on her journey and career. During the interaction, Rani also shared her thoughts on whether she would ever be part of Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom franchise.

Recalling a past conversation, Karan Johar spoke about asking Rani if she would feature in any of YRF’s popular cinematic universes. Rani Mukerji’s sharp and witty response clearly left an impression on him.

Recounting the moment, Karan said, “I remember asking you, ‘Rani, he has a spy-verse, he has a Dhoom-verse, when are you in his universe?’ And you turned around and said, ‘Darling, I have my own.'”

Karan further praised Rani’s quiet strength and commanding presence, especially in the Mardaani franchise. He noted, “This is part three, which is releasing… and you’ve led it silently and strongly… never made a big deal about it. Part three, in this time, which is led by so much testosterone and alpha male energy. You’ve been showing that in this verse forever."

During the same interview, Rani became emotional while recalling how Karan Johar had trusted her to dub her own voice in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai without hesitation.

She reflected on an earlier experience from the sets of Ghulam, where Aamir Khan had explained to her that her voice was “not apt” for the film and that someone else would dub it. Rani admitted that the decision had been “upsetting” for her.

Visibly moved, she added, “I really owe this to Karan, when we were shooting for the trailer of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai… I remember you asked me whether I had dubbed my voice in my first film and if I had a problem with it and I said no, I did dub my voice."

Meanwhile, the makers of Rani Mukerji’s gritty cop franchise Mardaani recently unveiled the trailer of its third instalment. The film sees Rani reprising her role as the determined and fearless IPS officer Shivani Shivaji Roy. Mardaani 3 is slated to hit theatres on January 30.
