Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, known for his comic timing, surrendered himself in Tihar jail in connection with a check-bounce case. The actor has admitted that he has no friends and no money.
The actor’s manager, Goldie, has now shared an update on his bail.
In an interview with India Today, Rajpal Yadav’s manager assured fans that the actor’s bail hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. The actor's family is now optimistic about his release with the latest development.
The manager said, “There is a bail hearing tomorrow, and the family is hopeful that he will be out of jail.”
In a ten-year-old check-bounce case, the Delhi High Court sentenced Rajpal Yadav to six months in prison. According to reports, the actor borrowed Rs 5 crore from a businessman in Delhi in 2010 to finance Ata Pata Laapata, his directorial debut.
His attorney claims that after several years of unsuccessful attempts to arrange the reimbursement, Yadav made the decision to turn himself in to the Tihar Jail authorities last week.
The manager added that several personalities from the entertainment industry had stepped up to provide the actor with financial help. Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn were among the actors he mentioned. He also mentioned that director David Dhawan told him that his son, actor Varun Dhawan, would also assist. He asked people to refrain from disparaging the industry.
Goldie said, “The whole industry is coming forward to help him at this time. Sonu Sood has publicly supported him. Actors like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have taken the initiative, and even David Dhawan has told me that Varun will help him. I don’t want to name only a few members and unintentionally belittle the rest of the industry.”
According to Goldie, earlier in the day, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) sent out a letter asking members to show solidarity.
He said, "To be honest, many people have been forthcoming, and we are hopeful that we will sail through this situation. Rajpal ji is a strong man, and he has shown absolute grit during this time.”
The actor’s manager also responded to rumours regarding the February 19 wedding of the actor's niece. He said that the family's plans could not be affected by the new developments in the case because the wedding had been finalised two or three months prior.
"The wedding was planned almost two to three months in advance, and we could not let the current situation affect it. It's just about a week away, and the family felt they should neither call off nor postpone the celebrations. In fact, it gives them a sense of normalcy during these tense times. As I said, we are hopeful that Rajpal ji will be back home soon. The family is praying that he is able to attend the wedding festivities," he said.
The manager also admitted that everyone is expecting a positive outcome from the bail hearing on Thursday.
