Over time, Blive Productions has established a reputation for telling stories that are both profoundly human and grounded in everyday reality. For producer Suraj Singh, who is backing the upcoming comedy-drama Rahu Ketu, this emotional resonance is not just a creative choice but the foundation of every story he champions.
“A story must have soul”: What makes a Blive film feel like ‘Blive’When asked what gives a Blive project its identity, Suraj put it simply: relatability and emotional truth. “So, for me, what we choose and we believe in making is obviously the two things which I always see. One is the story has to be very relatable. And the story needs to have soul.” He said.
He acknowledged the shift in audience behaviour post-pandemic, with OTT opening up unprecedented access to content, yet he remains firm that theatrical cinema thrives when storytelling strikes the right chord.
“But if you see, any content or any film which is done and made rightly, people have turned up to the theatres… our story has to touch the audience core.”
Why Suraj said yes to Rahu Ketu starring Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma? The upcoming film brings together a colourful cast and writer-director Vipul Vig, best known for the Fukrey franchise. Suraj recalls being instantly intrigued when his partner Mahesh Kukreja introduced him to the script.
“When I heard the story, I found the uniqueness about the characters. Because nobody has shown these mytho characters in such a funny way.” He said.
What stood out most was the inversion of a familiar narrative trope, “We have always seen good versus bad. We have not seen God versus bad… where these two characters are so funny and the characters have become human.”
The premise—divine beings entering the lives of criminals to ‘finish corruption’ in a comedic way—felt fresh, entertaining, and disruptive.
For Suraj, the film’s title itself is a hook. “Anybody who hears the film title will say, wow.” But beyond that, its charm lies in its unusual blend of mythology, humour, and social commentary.
“It’s God versus the bad. So, that is one line which I feel makes the film stand out from the others.”
While the film carries a philosophical undercurrent about karma, Suraj emphasises that the message is subtle: “The message is very simple. It will be good with good and bad with bad… But we have kept the entertainment more.”
Suraj also revealed that the audiences can expect laughter, energy, and a satisfying mix of myth and modern-day mischief from Rahu Ketu.
The emotional marathon behind Salaam VenkySuraj’s previous film, Salaam Venky, remains one of his most personal journeys as a producer, he mentioned.
Adapted from the book The Last Hurrah, the film’s story of a young man embracing life despite knowing his fate left a profound mark on him.
“That was one film where I chased everybody… a story about a guy who knows his death is certain, but still he's so much full of life.”
He recalls writer Samir reading the book during a difficult period in his own life. “He called me, and he was crying… he said, Suraj ji, you have changed my life.”
The process of finding the right director and cast involved patience and faith. Revathy initially said no before eventually coming on board; Kajol, too, changed her mind mid-narration. Even Aamir Khan joked about how quickly he agreed to the film.

For Suraj, Salaam Venky was more than a film—it was a transformative experience.
“Every film has its own destiny and its own journey… Salaam Venky was a big, big experience and a big learning.”
With Rahu Ketu, Suraj Singh ventures into a playful, mischievous universe—one that blends laughter with subtle meaning. Backed by Blive’s commitment to soulful, relatable storytelling, the film promises a refreshing cinematic ride where mythology meets madness, and humour meets heart.
