Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra became a global sensation after she made her Hollywood debut in 2015 with the series Quantico. She has since starred in multiple movies and series, establishing herself as a popular name in the Hollywood industry.
However, Anjula Acharia, Priyanka’s representative, was behind her Hollywood debut and has recently reflected on the same.
During a recent podcast episode of The Ok Sweetie Show, Anjula said, “People told me I was stupid when I bought Priyanka here. Everyone was like, you can't break about a brown Bollywood star in America. And I went to Jimmy and I was like, because we'd signed her together, like we'd signed her through a label deal at Interscope.”
She added, “And I was having one of my insecure moments. There weren't very many. And I was like, Jimmy, like people are saying that I'm crazy.”
“And he goes, do you know everyone thought I was crazy when I wanted to launch a white rapper? His name was Eminem,” further noted Anjula.
For the unversed, Priyanka Chopra’s major Hollywood breakthrough was starring as Alex Parrish in the ABC series Quantico (2015). She created history by becoming the first South Asian woman to headline an American network drama.
Priyanka went on to star in films like Baywatch (2017) and The Matrix Resurrections (2021) after establishing herself on TV. She recently starred in Citadel, which also starred Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci and others.
The actress’ most recent appearance was in Nick Jonas’ holiday special, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie.
Priyanka Chopra is all set to make a grand comeback to the Indian cinema with her Telugu film debut with SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi. The highly anticipated film also stars Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Varanasi is scheduled for release during Sankranti 2027.
She will be next seen in The Bluff alongside Karl Urban. The actress is also gearing up for Citadel Season 2.
