Priyanka Chopra’s brother Siddharth became ‘collateral damage’ to her stardom, mother Madhu Chopra says, ‘I see him struggling everyday’

Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Dr Madhu Chopra, has opened up about the unintended impact the actor’s meteoric rise to fame had on her younger brother, Siddharth Chopra. Madhu described Siddharth as having become “collateral damage” to Priyanka’s success as the family focused on establishing her career, and said she still sees him “struggling every day.”

Priyanka Chopra’s rise from beauty queen to global superstar has been one of the most remarkable journeys in Indian entertainment. But behind the success story lies a softer, less talked-about family narrative — one in which her younger brother, Siddharth Chopra, has ostensibly borne some emotional cost, according to their mother, Dr Madhu Chopra.

In an emotional conversation shared in past interviews and amplified by recent reports, Madhu Chopra acknowledged that Siddharth became, in her words, “collateral damage” to Priyanka’s rapid ascent in the film industry. She explained that when Priyanka was just a teenager, fresh off a Miss World win and engulfed in film offers, the family’s focus shifted heavily toward her career development. With Dr Ashok Chopra, the children’s father, occupied with his medical practice, and Madhu herself accompanying Priyanka to Mumbai to support her early projects, Siddharth was left to grow up largely on his own.

She said, “Siddharth was the collateral damage to all of Priyanka’s success, because their dad (Dr Ashok Chopra) was working, I was with Priyanka, he just grew up on his own and he was a teenager at that time. He, I think, was collateral damage for me.” Madhu got emotional as she spoke about Siddharth and shared, “When I think about it, these are certain things that you had to deal with.”

Madhu reflected on the unintended consequences of this family dynamic, saying that while they were nurturing Priyanka’s talent and navigating the demands of her budding stardom, Siddharth did not receive the same level of parental attention during those formative years. She candidly admitted that she still sees him struggling every day, a comment that underlines her regret and concern for his well-being.

Despite the challenges, Madhu also expressed gratitude for both her children.

She noted that Siddharth eventually “landed on his feet” and has built a life of his own. Siddharth married Neelam Upadhyaya in 2024, with Priyanka and her husband Nick Jonas, along with their daughter Malti Marie, attending the ceremonies — suggesting that the family remains supportive and close despite past difficulties.
