Over the years, Priyanka Chopra has openly spoken about the deep bond she shared with her father, the late Ashok Chopra. His passing in 2013 left a void in her life — one she continues to acknowledge with honesty and emotion. In a recent podcast appearance, Priyanka once again reflected on his absence, sharing that she believes he would have wholeheartedly approved of her husband, Nick Jonas.
During a conversation on Mythical Kitchen, Priyanka was asked whether she thought Nick would have gotten along well with her father. Her response was both thoughtful and heartfelt.
She said, “Nick is exactly the kind of person my dad would have picked for me if he had a choice. You know, someone who’s a musician. My dad’s first love was music. He loved music. And I do really feel that my husband is a prodigy. I think he’s, for those who know him as a singer, songwriter or as a writer, who have seen him in the studio, it’s wild to see.”
Speaking further about what she admires in her husband, she added, “Whenever I want to be re-inspired, I go to the studio to watch Nick work because he’s in the zone and he creates from ideas and inspiration, and he puts things together so beautifully. So that is one thing my dad would have loved about Nick. But more than anything, Nick is a very wise soul."
"I think he would have wanted someone like that for me because that ain’t me, I am not wise. The balance you need, the yin to your yang. That would have been a wish of mine, that my dad would have met my husband and my daughter," Priyanka concluded.
Ashok Chopra had battled cancer for several years before he died in 2013. Priyanka has often described how closely connected she was to him — emotionally and creatively. She even has a tattoo on her wrist dedicated to him, a permanent reminder of their bond. Through social media posts and interviews, she continues to honour his memory, often speaking about how much she misses him during significant milestones.
Priyanka and Nick tied the knot in 2018 at the majestic Umaid Bhawan Palace, celebrating their union with both Christian and Hindu ceremonies that beautifully reflected their blended cultures.

In 2022, the couple welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, via surrogacy — a new chapter that Priyanka has described as transformative.
On the professional front, Priyanka was recently seen in The Bluff, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video. She is also set to return to Indian cinema with filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli’s upcoming project Varanasi, marking an eagerly awaited homecoming for the global star.
