Jatin Prithviraj Kapoor recently took to his Instagram account to speak about his mother, Urmila Kapoor Sial—the only daughter of legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor.
In a video series that Jatin has begun, spoke about his mother's life away from the limelight and also shared lesser-known details about his family’s journey.
Captioning the post, Jatin wrote, “Prithviraj Kapoor ki eklauti beti Urmila, jab……”, sparking curiosity and nostalgia among fans of the iconic Kapoor family.
Despite being born into one of Hindi cinema’s most influential families, Urmila Kapoor Sial chose a life far removed from fame and films.
She married businessman Charanjit Sial and devoted herself to family life. The couple had four children, and among them, Jatin Sial is the only one who went on to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
Speaking about his parents’ love story, Jatin revealed that his mother left behind the comfort of city life and her Bollywood connections to live with his father in the jungles. He shared that his father was a mining professional, and the family lived in Nagpur as part of a joint household. Their life, he said, was simple and grounded, far removed from the glamour usually associated with the Kapoor name.
Jatin also mentioned that his father, Charanjit Sial, shared a close bond with veteran actor Shammi Kapoor, highlighting the deep personal connections that existed within the extended Kapoor family beyond the silver screen.
When one thinks of the Kapoor legacy, towering names like Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, and Rishi Kapoor immediately come to mind—figures who laid the foundation of Hindi cinema.
Over the decades, stars such as Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Ranbir Kapoor carried that legacy forward. However, one member of the family quietly forged his own path—Jatin Sial.
Now known as Jatin Prithviraj Kapoor, he made a mark for himself primarily on television. The son of Urmila Sial and the nephew of Raj, Shammi, and Shashi Kapoor, Jatin began his journey in the film industry as an assistant director.
He worked closely with his uncle Shashi Kapoor on the 1990 fantasy film Ajooba, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, and Dimple Kapadia.
Jatin stepped into the spotlight in the 1990s, first assisting behind the scenes before transitioning to acting. He appeared in popular television shows such as Tehkikaat, Vansh, Rishtey, and Saans, earning recognition for his performances. He later made his Bollywood acting debut in Aa Ab Laut Chalen, directed by Rishi Kapoor and starring Aishwarya Rai and Akshaye Khanna.
