Actor and model Mandana Karimi has spoken candidly about the ongoing Middle East crisis, criticising the Iranian regime and expressing her emotional distress over the violence engulfing the region.
In a recent interview, the Iranian-born Bollywood figure described the leadership in Tehran as a “cancerous cell in the Middle East”, a stark metaphor she used to condemn the long-standing unrest and suffering faced by ordinary Iranians.
Mandana, who has lived and worked in India and is known for her roles in Bollywood films and reality shows, spoke about the deep impact the escalating crisis has had on her personally.
Speaking with NDTV, she said that seeing protests both inside Iran and abroad — including demonstrations in India — has been heartbreaking, particularly given the human cost of the conflict. “People inside Iran have protested with bare hands for years… we have lost people, mothers, kids, universities — the list just goes on and on.”
The actor’s comments come amid a broader escalation following joint strikes by the US and Israel on Iranian targets, an event that prompted retaliatory action and heightened fears of a wider regional war.
Mandana said, "We have lost mothers, kids, universities - the list just goes on and on. No one celebrates deaths lightly. But this regime, what they have done to us... and I'm sure you've seen the videos from the past couple of months - January 8 and January 9 - when the mass murder of 1,000 people happened."
"Iranians started dancing and celebrating the deaths of their own people. What happened is that my own family, my own friends, when they call me, they say, 'Can you believe how many are dead?," she questioned.
Mandana’s use of the term “cancerous” to describe the regime reflects her longstanding criticism of the government’s handling of dissent and human rights issues. Karimi added, "We're going to be celebrating because it's been so many years that we've been asking the world, please help us. This regime is a cancerous cell in the Middle East."
