Veteran actor Kabir Bedi recently celebrated a major milestone in his illustrious career as the iconic television series Sandokan completed 50 years. The special occasion was marked at the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival in Italy, where the actor attended a commemorative event honouring the legacy of the beloved show.
Known for his remarkable body of work across Indian and international cinema, Kabir has built a reputation as one of the most respected veterans in the entertainment industry. However, one of the defining moments of his career came in 1976 when he starred in Sandokan, an Italian television series directed by Sergio Sollima.
The show became immensely popular across Europe and turned Bedi into a global sensation. His portrayal of the fearless pirate hero captivated audiences and made him one of the first Indian actors to headline a major international television production.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the series, Kabir attended the celebration at the Sanremo Festival and shared glimpses of the memorable event on social media. He posted photos from the occasion alongside Turkish actor Can Yaman, who is set to play the legendary character in the upcoming adaptation of Sandokan.
Sharing pictures, he wrote, “Celebrated the 50th anniversary of my Sandokan series at the San Remo Festival in Italy on February 24th, and coming together with the dynamic new Sandokan Can Yaman, all broadcast live on RAI. I never imagined I’d be in San Remo 50 years later, all thanks to the great late Sergio Sollima, who created and directed the series from the eternal fantastic stories of Emilio Salgari. Thank you San Remo, RAI, Carlo Conti, Laura Fausini and Can Yaman 🇮🇹 #blessed #Sandokan #sanremo #italia #actorslife.”
The series itself was based on the adventure novels by Italian writer Emilio Salgari, which follow the daring exploits of the legendary pirate hero Sandokan. The show’s massive international success cemented Bedi’s status as a global icon and earned him a devoted fan following worldwide.
Even Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently celebrated this remarkable milestone achieved by his close friend Kabir Bedi. Marking nearly five decades of the iconic show, Salman congratulated the veteran actor for creating history with the series and bringing global recognition to Indian talent. In a warm and heartfelt gesture, Salman praised Bedi for his unforgettable performance and referred to him as the “original Tiger of India.”
