After striking a genuine emotional connection with cinema-goers during its theatrical run, the courtroom drama Haq is now beginning a fresh chapter with its arrival on OTT.

The movie, which hit theaters in November 2025, might not have set the box office alight, but it certainly made a big impact on those viewers who resonated with its themes and acting.

The story of Haq, revolves around Shazia, played by Yami Gautam, a woman whose life is suddenly turned upside down.

Married to influential lawyer Abbas Khan, portrayed by Emraan Hashmi, Shazia believes she is living a secure and loving life. That illusion is shattered when Abbas Khan brings home a second wife without warning and ends his marriage to Shazia through triple talaq.

What follows is not just a personal crisis, but a powerful journey of resistance, resilience and self-respect, as Shazia chooses to fight back through the legal system rather than accept injustice in silence.

The film carefully balances its emotional core with a strong legal narrative, showing Shazia’s determination as she stands up for her rights in court.

Announcing the digital release, Yami Gautam Dhar took to her X handle on Friday to share the news with fans. Posting the film’s poster, she wrote, “Streaming now on @NetflixIndia #HAQ. The film received largely positive reviews from all but failed to leave a mark at the box office.”

Despite strong reviews, the film struggled commercially, earning around Rs 30 crore against a reported budget of Rs 40 crore.

Performances by Sheeba Chaddha and Vartika Singh further strengthen the film, adding nuance and authenticity to the legal and social themes it explores. Together, the cast delivers a grounded and emotionally honest portrayal of a woman’s fight for dignity.

Earlier, Yami Gautam Dhar had spoken openly about how much the positive feedback meant to her, especially given the film’s subject matter. She shared, “The power of ‘Word of mouth’. No foul play or any gimmicks. Straight from our hearts to the audience. Even from a trade & media perspective, I feel a lot of positivity that they want a film like ‘ HAQ’ to be a success. It’s a rarity & I shall cherish this moment for life."
