After riding high on the success of Border 2, Sunny Deol seems to be entering a particularly meaningful phase of his career.
While the roar of patriotic drama still echoes in cinemas, the actor is already preparing audiences for something far more intimate with his next film, Gabru.
Initially scheduled for release on 13 March 2026, Gabru will now arrive in theatres on 8 May 2026.
Directed by Shashank Udapurkar and produced by Vishal Rana and Om Chhangani, the film places Sunny Deol in a role that feels deeply personal.
He plays a middle-aged family man whose life takes an unexpected turn, pushing him to confront his fears, rediscover his identity and embrace life with renewed courage.
According to Variety India, a source close to the project shared, “For Sunny Deol, ‘Gabru’ is not just another project, but a story that resonates with him on a deeply personal level. The film reflects themes of courage, identity, and resilience— elements that have always defined his cinematic journey. The makers are adopting a carefully curated release strategy to honor the film’s intimate narrative and strong emotional core, ensuring it connects meaningfully with audiences."
Sunny Deol himself recently told ANI that Gabru is a film very close to his heart — a sentiment that hints at how much this story means to him beyond box-office numbers.
The film also stars Simran and Prit Kamani, with music composed by Mithoon. Notably, Gabru marks a shift from the towering, action-driven persona Sunny Deol became known for in films like Gadar.
With the new release date, Gabru will clash with Chand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya.
Beyond Gabru, Sunny Deol has an exciting slate ahead, including Lahore 1947 and Ramayana directed by Nitesh Tiwari, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.
