  • Shazia isn't the first Bollywood star to oppose Dhurandhar's politics.

Filmmaker Shazia Iqbal has recently landed in controversy after she freely expressed her review for Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. After the Ranveer Singh-starrer’s Netflix release, Shazia called the film ‘sinister’ on her Instagram stories without naming it.

However, the social media users claimed that the dig was at Dhurandhar and slammed the filmmaker.

Shazia took to her Instagram Story and criticised Dhurandhar without mentioning the movie.

She wrote, “What a sinister film! It’s not hidden, it’s not unintentional — inciting hate and violence is in the DNA of the film. But it’s a ‘well-made’ film, guys… with some cool BGM. Well done, industry dude bros. Glad that most of y’all don’t care about minorities enough to even hide your blatant apathy.”

Soon after, screenshots of her critique started making the rounds on social media, with many Instagram and X (previously Twitter) users criticising her views.

One person tweeted, “Shazia Iqbal who made Dhadak 2 displaying forced propaganda on casteism has audacity to post sly against Dhurandhar lol.”

Another added, “Did Shazia Iqbal watch her own project “Sacred Games” for the first time? Or was it “Houseful 2”?”

A third person wrote, “anyway what hate? what sinister?????? that pakistan is a breeding ground for terrorism? miss shazia iqbal needs to just move to karachi.”

Another penned, “THE BIGGEST JOKE OF THE CENTURY. DIRECTOR OF ANTI INDIA FILM #Dhadak2 Shazia Iqbal is calling nation’s film #dhurandhar a sinister hateful film! Madam you should be jailed for making dhadak2!”

However, Shazia made her previously public Instagram account private following the brutal backlash on social media.

However, Shazia is not the first Bollywood celebrity who has disagreed with Dhurandhar’s politics.

Previously, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap spoke about the film and said, “I liked the film, but I didn't like some of the ideologies. The dialogue about 'This is the new India' and one long political monologue, among a total of three scenes, were unnecessary; even without them, the film's impact would not have diminished.”
