A few days ago, Eros International Media Ltd moved the court with an Rs 84 crore commercial intellectual property lawsuit against filmmaker Aanand L Rai, alleging trademark and copyright infringement, along with a connected interim application. While the legal action has sparked discussion in the industry, the director has now responded to the development, choosing to remain calm and measured about the matter.
According to Eros, Aanand L Rai’s film Tere Ishk Mein has been promoted as a “spiritual sequel” to Raanjhanaa without securing the required permissions. The company has further alleged that certain intellectual property associated with Raanjhanaa was unlawfully used during the marketing and promotion of Tere Ishk Mein.
Reacting to the lawsuit in an interview with NDTV, Aanand L Rai appeared unfazed and downplayed the issue. He said, “These are part of life. When you step into business, such things keep happening. I don’t even know why, how, or from where this has come. But I think it is a legal matter, so let the legal people handle it. There is a lawyer on their side, and a lawyer from here will respond too.”
He further added, “I don’t think it has any meaning. Anyone can say anything about anything at any time. So it’s not something to be taken too seriously. It’s more for the lawyers to deal with. Since it’s a legal matter, I won’t speak much about it, but it’s nothing serious.”
As reported by The Times of India, Eros International Media Ltd has filed the suit in the Bombay High Court against Aanand L Rai and his production company, Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP. The list of defendants also includes Super Cassettes Industries (T-Series), writer Himanshu Sharma, and Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP.
In its petition, Eros International Media pointed out that Colour Yellow Productions had used hashtags such as ‘World Of Raanjhanaa’ in the promotional material for Tere Ishk Mein. The company further claimed that even after a cease-and-desist notice was issued on July 25, 2025, and certain references were subsequently removed from promotional content, the film continued to retain links and associations with Raanjhanaa.
Meanwhile, Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, was released in theatres on November 28, 2025.
