Actor Ranveer Singh has reportedly stepped away from Don 3, the much-anticipated sequel directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced under Excel Entertainment, following the massive success of Dhurandhar. However, his exit from the project has now reportedly snowballed into a major financial dispute.

As per the latest buzz, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment is said to be seeking compensation of Rs 40 crore from Ranveer Singh, citing heavy losses incurred during the film’s pre-production phase. According to a report published by Variety India, the production house claims it had already invested substantially in the project based on Ranveer’s commitment.

The report further suggests that Ranveer Singh is strongly resisting the compensation demand, as he allegedly believes he is not liable to pay the amount. A source quoted in the report stated, “Ranveer claims he left the project because he wasn’t happy with the script. He kept asking for changes to be made and didn’t like what the final draft read. Excel, on the other hand, claims that they went ahead with pre-production only after Singh gave his go ahead.”

Adding to the gravity of the situation, Variety India also reported that Excel Entertainment has begun downsizing its operations in the aftermath of Ranveer’s exit. Several heads of departments were reportedly let go and asked to look for work elsewhere. This move, the report claims, was driven by an alleged financial setback of Rs 40 crore that the production house attributes directly to the actor’s departure from the film.

Despite talks, the two parties reportedly could not agree. As the dispute grew, the Producers Guild of India (PGI) stepped in to help mediate between Ranveer Singh and the producers in an effort to settle the issue.

At the same time, recent rumours in the industry suggest that Don 3 might be offered again to Shah Rukh Khan, who famously played the iconic character in Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011). However, there has been no official confirmation about his return to the franchise.

On the work front, Ranveer Singh is next set to appear in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is slated for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026.
