Ahmedabad’s skies were not just filled with colourful kites on January 13, 2026 — they also saw the vibrant presence of Bollywood and OTT stars as Emraan Hashmi and the cast of Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web embraced the spirit of Uttarayan at the International Kite Festival held at the Sabarmati Riverfront.
The festival, one of Gujarat’s most iconic cultural celebrations marking the Makar Sankranti season, draws kite flyers and enthusiasts from across India and around the world. It runs from January 10 to 14, with Ahmedabad hosting the main events from the 12th to the 14th, attracting visitors with its colourful displays, cultural programmes and panoramic views of endless kites in the sky.
Against this festive backdrop, Emraan Hashmi, Zoya Afroz, Amruta Khanvilkar and Nandish Singh Sandhu were welcomed by crowds at the Sabarmati Riverfront. Rather than focusing solely on promotional interviews, the cast soaked in the energy of Uttarayan, interacted with festival-goers and flew a special Taskaree kite designed to echo the series’ theme — blending the thrill of the festival with the narrative’s focus on vigilance and movement through the skies.
The visit offered a unique promotional moment for Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, a Netflix crime thriller that follows customs officers as they unravel complex smuggling networks — a high-stakes narrative reflecting another kind of sky-related vigilance, this time in airports and airspace. The series, created by Neeraj Pandey and starring Hashmi as a customs officer, delves into the unseen world of smuggling and enforcement, premiering on Netflix from January 14, 2026.
Despite a minor hiccup earlier in the day — Hashmi’s Akasa Air flight from Mumbai was diverted to Jaipur before landing safely in Ahmedabad — the cast made a memorable appearance, joining the colourful Uttarayan scene and celebrating with locals, tourists and kite enthusiasts alike.
