Ranveer Singh starrer upcoming action spy thriller Dhurandhar 2 is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on March 19, with paid premieres scheduled a day earlier on March 18. Even before hitting the big screen, the film has already created tremendous buzz among moviegoers.

The excitement surrounding the film has been evident since the trailer dropped on Saturday, after which advance bookings were open. Within the first 24 hours alone, the film managed to sell an impressive 87,000 tickets. On BookMyShow itself, the film recorded 87.81K ticket sales during that period.

Trade tracking reports further highlighted the speed at which the tickets were snapped up. According to one report, “As soon as advance booking opened for Dhurandhar 2, the Ranveer-starrer sold tickets worth Rs 4 crore worldwide in just under two hours.”

A closer look at the figures shows that Rs 2.50 crore came from the major multiplex chains—PVR, INOX Leisure Limited and Cinepolis—where around 35,000 tickets were sold.

Premium pricing strategies have also been introduced for the film’s previews. In the Delhi-NCR region, a special Super Blockbuster Plus category has been launched, with ticket prices going as high as Rs 2,500 for select preview shows.

For the paid premiere screenings alone, the film has already collected Rs 9.03 crore through advance sales, with more than 1 lakh tickets sold so far. The Hindi version dominates the numbers, contributing over Rs 8 crore, while the other language versions have also added to the total—Telugu with Rs 6 lakh, Tamil with Rs 5 lakh, Malayalam with Rs 56,000 and Kannada with Rs 31,000.

Interestingly, among the regional markets, Tamil Nadu has recorded the highest occupancy so far at 22%.

The demand for tickets has been extremely strong, with several centres already reporting sold-out shows. In many locations, exhibitors are witnessing requests for additional screenings to accommodate the growing audience interest.

Trade analysts believe the film could achieve a remarkable advance booking figure of around Rs 30 crore for the paid previews alone—an unprecedented number for a Hindi feature film. With capacity gradually increasing, the film could reach nearly 7,000 shows by release day, with a total potential capacity estimated at Rs 55 crore.

The film’s performance overseas has also been equally impressive, especially in the North American market. For premiere shows in the United States alone, the film has already sold more than 38,500 tickets across 557 locations, generating a gross of Rs 5.15 crore (converted from $618,911). When combined with the strong domestic trends, the film appears well positioned to challenge several historical benchmarks for paid preview collections.

The first instalment, Dhurandhar, had opened strongly in India with a collection of Rs 28 crore on December 5. It eventually went on to collect Rs 838.5 crore in India and a staggering Rs 1303.35 crore worldwide.

With around 10 days still remaining before its paid preview screenings, Dhurandhar 2 has already set a new record for the biggest Bollywood premiere advance ever. The film has surpassed the previous benchmark held by Amar Kaushik’s 2024 horror comedy Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, which had earned Rs 8.50 crore gross (around Rs 10 crore net) from advance sales for its paid previews. Notably, Dhurandhar 2 managed to cross that milestone comfortably within just the first 24 hours after bookings opened.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2 will release in theatres on March 19.
