The Delhi High Court has issued formal notices to Priya Kapur in connection with a high-stakes inheritance dispute over the Rs 30,000 crore estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, directing her to respond to applications seeking the seizure and examination of electronic devices believed to contain key evidence related to the contested will. The notices were issued on Thursday, February 5, 2026, and include the possibility of securing Call Detail Records (CDRs), handwriting analysis and a forensic inspection of the purported will, as the court intensifies scrutiny over the document’s origin and authenticity.
The applications were filed by Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, Sunjay’s children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, who allege that the will presented by Priya names her as the sole beneficiary of Sunjay’s personal assets — a claim the siblings strongly contest as inconsistent with their father’s conduct and communications before his death. Samaira and Kiaan have sought not only the production and preservation of mobile devices referenced in the will but also the CDRs of Priya Kapur during the period just before the alleged execution of the will in March 2025.
Priya Kapur has been given two weeks to file her response to the notices. The court has flagged the urgency of securing telecom records, noting they are preserved only for a limited time and may shed light on Priya’s presence in Gurugram on the date the will was purportedly executed — a key factual point now under dispute.
The petitioners’ original filings point to extensive WhatsApp conversations and phone calls showing ongoing involvement by Sunjay with Samaira and Kiaan in his final months, evidence they say is at odds with a will that excludes them. The children have also offered their own devices for verification, while alleging that Priya remains in possession of Sunjay’s phone — a matter the court appears poised to examine closely.
The notices were issued during proceedings before Joint Registrar (Judicial) Gagandeep Jindal, who emphasised resistance to a forensic inspection of the will during earlier stages by some parties. “I don’t understand resistance to inspection of the will,” the registrar remarked, signalling judicial inclination toward deeper evidentiary scrutiny.
