Former child actor Pooja Ruparel reunited with noted filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, nearly 33 years after they first worked together on King Uncle, which released in 1993
The unexpected meeting, which Pooja shared fondly on her Instagram, brought a rush of childhood memories and festive nostalgia.
Pooja, who shot to national fame as a child artist, shared two pictures of then-and-now photos taken with veteran director Rakesh Roshan on set and in the present day,
She captioned the post with heartfelt words: “33 years later… I met my first director… life changing… The real ‘King’ Uncle… My Rakesh uncle.”
The post showed the genuine affection and respect she still holds for her first mentor, highlighting how certain creative relationships remain deeply significant long after the lights, camera and action fade away.
King Uncle, directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan, stands as one of Bollywood’s cherished family classics.
King Uncle boasted of an ensemble cast that included Jackie Shroff, Shah Rukh Khan, Anu Aggarwal, Nagma, Paresh Rawal, and Pooja Ruparel. Pooja played the role of an orphan 'Munna,'
The film inspired from hit Hollywood film Annie and it was a tale of transformation, forgiveness and familial bonds.
Though a moderate commercial success at that time, King Uncle has since grown into a cult favourite among families and children, fondly remembered for its emotional core and memorable performances.
For Pooja, King Uncle was the beginning of a long and varied career. She went on to be recognised widely for her iconic role as 'Chutki' in SRK and Kajol starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which is considered as one of Bollywood’s most enduring romances.
Over the years she has appeared in films like Amit Sahni Ki List and X: Past is Present, as well as television series including 24 and Zabaan Sambhalke.
