Bollywood is gearing up for what could be its first big hit of 2026, and veteran actor Sunny Deol looks set to deliver it with his upcoming war drama Border 2.
While Telugu cinema has already had a strong start to the year thanks to Chiranjeevi’s Shiv Shankar Prasad Garu, Hindi audiences are eagerly waiting to see if Sunny Deol’s latest offering will capture the same excitement.
With the release scheduled for January 23, just ahead of Republic Day, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what could be a career-defining opening for the actor.
Advance bookings for Border 2 opened in India on Wednesday, following pre-sales in countries like Canada, Germany, and Australia.
The early response has been encouraging: within just a few days, nearly 2 lakh tickets have already been sold for the opening day alone.
As of Thursday morning, Sacnilk reports the advance booking gross at Rs 5.75 crore, while BookMyShow shows tickets selling at a pace of almost 4,000 per hour—double the rate from just a couple of days earlier. With momentum building, industry insiders expect the advance bookings to cross ₹10 crore by Thursday night.
Though not breaking records yet, the pace of advance sales is already better than some recent Bollywood releases. For comparison, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar hadn’t reached Rs 4 crore in advance bookings a day before release, while Border 2 has already crossed Rs 5.75 crore.

Trade experts suggest Sunny Deol’s war drama could open between rs 32–35 crore on day one in India, a huge jump from the Rs 9 crore opening of his last film, Jaat. Some optimistic projections even see it touching Rs 40 crore if word of mouth spreads and smaller-town audiences flock to theatres, potentially surpassing the first-day collections of Gadar 2 (Rs 40.1 crore).
A sequel to JP Dutta’s iconic 1997 blockbuster Border, the 2026 version is directed by Anurag Singh and stars Sunny Deol alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, the film promises a mix of patriotic fervour, emotionally charged performances, and high-octane action sequences.
