After charging into cinemas with huge expectations and an equally strong response, Border 2 is now beginning to slow its pace as it moves deeper into its theatrical run.
The war drama, led by Sunny Deol, opened to packed theatres and impressive numbers, but by its sixth day on the big screen, the film showed the first clear signs of weekday fatigue.
According to an industry tracker, Border 2 earned an estimated Rs 13 crore nett across all languages in India on Wednesday, 28 January. While this figure is still solid by any standard, it represents a noticeable dip from the film’s explosive opening phase, which was powered by the Republic Day holiday and strong word of mouth.
The film performed exceptionally well during its first five days, amassing an estimated Rs 200 crore India nett. Collections were particularly strong over the opening weekend, painting a picture of growing excitement among audiences.
Border 2 opened at around Rs 30 crore on Friday, jumped to approximately Rs 36.5 crore on Saturday, and surged to Rs 54.5 crore on Sunday.
Monday proved to be the biggest day, with collections touching nearly Rs 59 crore, helped by the national holiday. From Tuesday onwards, however, earnings began to cool, with around Rs 20 crore on day five and an estimated Rs 13 crore on day six, taking the total to roughly Rs 213 crore.
Footfalls on Wednesday reflected a more subdued mood in cinemas. The overall Hindi occupancy rate stood at 16.78 per cent across the country. Morning shows were the quietest, recording just 7.52 per cent occupancy, before attendance gradually picked up.
Afternoon shows saw 17.27 per cent, evening shows improved to 19.82 per cent, and night shows performed best at 22.50 per cent. Compared to the festive weekend rush, these figures suggest the film has entered a more stable, post-holiday phase.
Trade experts are now watching closely to see whether Border 2 can hold steady in its second week and potentially challenge the lifetime numbers of blockbusters like Gadar 2. Fueling further interest, producer Bhushan Kumar has already hinted at the future of the franchise.
As per Koimoi, Border 2 has recorded an India gross of Rs 255.81 crore, while its overseas collections stand at impressive Rs 293.06 crore.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, "Obviously, it is such a big franchise. If you bring something back after almost 30 years and it is getting so much love, we will definitely take it forward."
He added, “We are doing a joint venture with his company and my company. He’ll be directing, and it will be something new. Border 3 will happen in due course.”

Directed by Anurag Singh and jointly produced by T-Series and J.P. Films, Border 2 features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Mona Singh.
Serving as a spiritual successor to the 1997 classic Border, the film draws from the 1971 India–Pakistan war and leans heavily into themes of patriotism, sacrifice, and national pride as it heads into a crucial second week at the box office.
