
Sunny Deol starrer Border 2, the sequel to Deol's 1997 blockbuster Border, opened to a thunderous start at the domestic box office, collecting Rs 32.10 crore net on its release day, January 23.
According to trade tracking websites, early data indicated that Border 2 earned around Rs 21.08 crore net in India on Day 2, the first Saturday, showing a good response from audiences.
On its opening weekend, till 7 pm, Border 2 recorded a net collection of Rs 30 crore on Day 1 (Friday), followed by Rs 21.08 crore on Day 2 (Saturday), bringing the total net collection to Rs 51.08 crore.
With the entire evening and night shows yet to start, the war drama recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 34.87% in theatres. Breaking it down by show timings, the morning shows saw 15.51% occupancy, afternoon shows had 39.97%, and evening shows reached 49.13% occupancy.
The film has received majorly positive responses from fans and has shown good progress in the initial two days. It is expected to continue its growth in the coming days.
Speaking about the film, Border 2 is helmed by Anurag Singh and also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. While the 1997 film was based on the events of the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 India–Pakistan war, Border 2 is also set against the backdrop of the same conflict.

Varun Dhawan portrays Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, and Diljit Dosanjh plays Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only Indian Air Force officer to be honoured with the Param Vir Chakra. Sunny Deol plays Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, based on Major General Hardev Singh Kaler. Ahan Shetty's character, Lt Cdr M. S. Rawat, represents the Indian Navy's contribution to the war.
Border 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, and JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta under their banners T-Series Films & JP Films. The film also features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana in pivotal roles.
