Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has taken a strong public stand against the upcoming Hindi film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, criticising it as “propaganda” and accusing its makers of being driven by greed and a desire to divide people rather than tell an honest story. His comments have added fuel to an already growing controversy around the film ahead of its scheduled release on 27 February 2026.
Speaking to reporters after arriving in Kochi for an awards event, Anurag didn’t mince words. Responding to questions about the trailer — especially a scene depicting a Hindu woman being force-fed beef — he labelled the film The Kerala Story 2 a “bullsh*t propaganda” picture, dismissing its narrative as unrealistic and sensationalised. “Kerala Story movie is s***. The movie is propaganda and bull****. Aise kaun beef khilata hai?Aise toh koi khichdi bhi nahi khilata hai.
Anurag further argued that the creators seem to be motivated more by commercial gains than by integrity in filmmaking, accusing them of trying to “please everybody” and stoke societal division. “The purpose of the film is to make money. They just want to please everybody and divide people. The filmmaker is a greedy man. He just wants to make money,” he said.
His remarks come amid broader industry and public backlash. Political leaders, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, have also criticised the sequel, calling it communal propaganda that risks harming the state’s secular ethos and social harmony.
The controversy has drawn legal scrutiny as well, with the Kerala High Court issuing notices challenging the film’s certification and highlighting complaints about its portrayal of sensitive issues and potential to incite communal tension.
