There is quite an excitement growing around Lahore 1947, the upcoming period drama with Aamir Khan productions starring Sunny Deol and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.
After the superhit Border 2, Sunny Deol fans have been eagerly waiting to see him return in a powerful, emotionally driven role.
This project, bringing together familiar collaborators and a compelling historical backdrop, has sparked considerable curiosity.
Recently, rumours began circulating that the film’s title might be changed to Batwara 1947 in order to avoid possible controversy. However, Aamir Khan has firmly put an end to the speculation.
As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, when senior journalist Subhash K Jha asked Aamir about the reported title change, the actor replied, “Where did you hear that? No, the title of our film has not changed. As of now, it is Lahore 1947, and that’s how I would like it to be.”
The film is slated for release on 13 August 2026, perfectly timed for the Independence Day weekend, it is a slot which is often reserved for patriotic or historically significant stories.
The film is likely to enjoy a largely solo release, as Kartik Aaryan’s Naagzilla has reportedly been postponed.
There has also been talk that Salman Khan’s Battle Of Galwan might target the same weekend.
Given Salman Khan’s warm rapport with both Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan, it will be interesting to see whether a box-office clash actually unfolds.
Alongside Sunny Deol, the film features Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.
It also marks Preity Zinta’s return to movies, she has been away from the big screen for eight years, with her last theatrical release being Bhaiaji Superhit, which also starred Sunny Deol but did not fare well commercially.
