According to Variety, The Princess Diaries 3 will be produced by Debra Martin Chase, who originally launched the franchise. Anne Hathaway is also set to produce the film under her production company, Somewhere Pictures.

The film has been in development for two years, with Anne Hathaway previously teasing fans in an interview last year, saying, “We’re in a good place. There’s nothing to announce yet, but we’re in a good place.” Now, it seems production is finally moving forward.

The Princess Diaries series follows Mia Thermopolis, an ordinary teenager who learns that her estranged father was the King of Genovia, a fictional European kingdom. Her grandmother, portrayed by Julie Andrews, soon appears, urging Mia to embrace her royal heritage and prepare to become a princess.

In a statement shared by Variety, Lim expressed her excitement: “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond thrilled to help bring this third chapter to life. We can’t wait to celebrate the themes of female empowerment, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
