Amitabh Bachchan, the legendary Bollywood actor, recently shared a touching and poignant message on social media, expressing his admiration for his son Abhishek Bachchan’s performance in the film I Want To Talk. The 82-year-old actor’s heartfelt words not only praised Abhishek’s acting but also subtly addressed the barrage of criticisms and gossip that have surrounded the Bachchan family, particularly the younger Bachchan’s personal life and career. Through this post, Amitabh sent a clear and defiant message, underscoring his support for his son amid the public scrutiny.

Amitabh’s note focused on the film’s unique storytelling, drawing attention to the immersive experience created by director Shoojit Sircar. In his post, the senior Bachchan praised the movie for its ability to pull the audience into its narrative. He said, “Some films invite you to be entertained... I Want To Talk just does that... it invites you to be the film.” He further described the movie’s effect on its audience, saying, “It picks you up gently from your seat in the theatre and places you, equally gently, inside the screen it is being projected upon... and you watch its life floating by. No effort or chance of wanting to escape from it into...ESCAPISM…” This description highlights the deeply engaging nature of the film, which seems to be an experience rather than just a form of entertainment.

Beyond his praise for the film, Amitabh Bachchan showered Abhishek with admiration for his role as Arjun Sen in the movie. The veteran actor took the opportunity to publicly commend his son’s transformation for the role, saying, “Abhishek, you are not Abhishek... you are Arjun Sen of the film.” This statement not only emphasized Abhishek’s skill as an actor but also conveyed the depth of his immersion in the character. Amitabh’s words were a testament to the dedication and hard work that Abhishek has put into his craft over the years, reinforcing his father’s belief in his son’s talent.

What made Amitabh’s message particularly impactful was the underlying defiance he conveyed against the constant criticism his son faces. In a direct response to the critics and gossipmongers who have often speculated about Abhishek’s personal life and career choices, Amitabh included a powerful line: “Kehne do unhein jo kehna hai; hamara toh kehna yeh hai!” This translates to, “Let them say what they want to say; this is what I have to say.” With this simple yet forceful statement, Amitabh made it clear that he stands by his son and refuses to be swayed by public opinion or the noise of detractors. It was a reminder of the unshakeable bond between the two and a message of resilience in the face of criticism.

Amitabh’s post also delved into the philosophy of judgment and perception, offering a profound reflection inspired by his father, the poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. He quoted his father’s words, “The good did think of me to be good; the bad did think of me as bad. The need for whichever, was the need for them, did they recognise me with that.” This quote encapsulates the idea that people’s opinions about others are often shaped by their own desires and biases. Amitabh further explained, “But it was YOUR 'need' to think good or think bad... and that was my recognition. It was not what I was. It was your need to think of me as bad or good. That was how much you could understand me.” Through these words, Amitabh acknowledged the complexity of judgment—how praise and criticism often say more about the person doing the judging than the individual being judged.

The timing of Amitabh’s post is significant, coming as it does amid ongoing rumors about Abhishek’s personal life, particularly his relationship with wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In the face of such rumors and public speculation, Amitabh’s message serves as a shield of support for his son, emphasizing that external judgments and gossip should not define one's worth or abilities. Instead, it is the strength of one's character and work that should be celebrated.
