Actor Vijay Varma took fans on a nostalgic trip this Sunday by sharing a series of throwback pictures from 2016, a year he described as a major milestone in his personal and professional journey. Among the images that grabbed instant attention was a quirky selfie Vijay took inside Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s house, with a much-talked-about “golden toilet” visible in the background.

Sharing the photos on social media, Vijay reflected on how transformative that year was for him. “2016 was sort of a milestone year for me,” he wrote. “I got to work with Big B and Shoojit da on movie Pink with the lovely cast and crew. Met god @sachintendulkar. Took selfie with a golden toilet at Bachchan’s.”

The post went on to capture several important moments from that phase of his life. Vijay recalled forming close friendships with actors Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh during gym sessions, meeting his hero Irrfan Khan, and working on Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara alongside Vidyut Jammwal and Amit Sadh. He also mentioned featuring in the music video Naina Bawre and enjoying what he called his “newfound mini fame,” while largely goofing around and learning on the job.

One of the standout memories from 2016, according to Vijay, was being part of the critically acclaimed courtroom drama Pink. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film starred Amitabh Bachchan in a powerful central role and went on to become a cultural touchstone for conversations around consent. Vijay credited the project as a rock-solid step in his acting journey and described working with Bachchan and Sircar as a profound learning experience.

Another photograph from the throwback set shows Vijay posing with Amitabh Bachchan at a social gathering, while yet another captures him with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, whom he fondly referred to as “God.” A particularly emotional image featured Vijay alongside the late Irrfan Khan, a figure he has often cited as one of his biggest inspirations.

Speaking earlier to IANS about his role in Pink, Vijay had opened up about the challenges of portraying a negative character. “It tends to take a bit of time to adjust, and it can be difficult,” he said. He recalled initially doubting whether he could pull off a particularly disturbing scene opposite Taapsee Pannu. “The brief from Shoojit Da and Anirudh Roy Choudhury was clear: if after watching this, a girl doesn’t feel like slapping you, you haven’t done it right.”

With characteristic honesty, Vijay added, “No one slapped me, but people did say they really felt like doing so. Sometimes I take very stupid challenges too as an actor.”

On the work front, Vijay Varma was last seen in Gustaakh Ishq, which also starred Naseeruddin Shah and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film was produced under ace designer Manish Malhotra’s production banner, Stage5 Production.
