The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Manoj Kumar, who passed away on Friday, 4 April, at the age of 87.
Manoj Kumar’s final rites are currently underway, with the cremation scheduled to take place at 11:30 am at the Pawan Hans crematorium, located opposite Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle, Mumbai.
The funeral is being attended by numerous celebrities and close associates from the film fraternity. In a widely circulated video from the funeral site, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and acclaimed screenwriter Salim Khan were seen holding hands and sharing a heartfelt moment. Their emotional exchange struck a chord with fans and served as a poignant reminder of the deep bonds shared within the industry.
Also present at the venue were Arbaaz Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, though the two were spotted maintaining distance and did not exchange greetings in the footage that surfaced online.
The legendary star had been undergoing treatment in a Mumbai hospital since 21 February due to chronic heart-related issues. He took his last breath at 3:30 am on Friday, leaving behind a rich cinematic legacy that spanned decades.
As a mark of honour, the late actor’s body was draped in the national tricolour and accorded a 21-gun salute in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema, particularly through films that ignited patriotic fervour.
Often referred to as ‘Bharat Kumar’ for his unforgettable portrayals in patriotic films, Manoj Kumar was widely respected both as an actor and director. His filmography includes iconic titles such as Purab Aur Paschim, Kranti, and Roti, Kapada Aur Makaan. Over the course of his illustrious career, he was honoured with a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards, firmly establishing his place as one of the most influential figures in Indian cinema.
