Salim Khan, the veteran screenwriter and father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, recently opened up about his relationship with his son, shedding light on the unique dynamics of their bond.

In an honest conversation with Magic Moments, Salim spoke candidly about the challenges of fatherhood, particularly his strict approach towards Salman, who is the eldest of his children.

Salim admitted that while he has scolded all of his children over the years, Salman has often borne the brunt of his reprimands. "I have scolded all of them, but Salman has had it the worst from me, particularly since he is the eldest among them," he said, revealing the tough-love approach he adopted with his son. Salim also recalled an instance when Salman remarked that his habits mirrored his father’s.

Salim responded sharply, "I said, 'Son, it may be a compliment for you, but not for me. Please understand that I don’t wish you to inherit any of my habits.’"
Reflecting on his own upbringing, Salim mentioned the fear he felt as a child when his father, a strict man, would enter the room. He recalled, "I would be scared stiff the moment I heard his leather boots on the floor," and added that he wanted his own children to see him as a friend rather than a disciplinarian.

Despite their close relationship, Salim admitted that there have been times when he hasn’t spoken to Salman for months. "That has happened, yes. If he does something I don’t like or I feel that he has done something wrong, then I don’t talk to him."

Salim even shared how, after such an argument, Salman would try to avoid him, walking past the house’s parapet to leave without speaking.

However, Salman would later return and apologise, saying, "Sorry, what I did was not right." Salim also reflected on the changes that come with success, adding, "Something I have noticed is that whenever a person succeeds in life, they end up forgetting one thing: their growth as a human being."
