Veteran Tamil and Malayalam actor Ravikumar Menon, best known for his roles in films like Avargal, Ullaasayaathra, and Pagalil Oru Iravu, has passed away at the age of 71.
As per a report by On Manorama, the actor who was battling cancer, breathed his last on Friday morning around 9 am at Prashanth Hospital in Velachery, Chennai. The news was shared by his son, and it has been confirmed that Ravikumar’s mortal remains will be taken to his residence in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, with the funeral scheduled for Saturday.
Ravikumar, originally from Thrissur, Kerala, had a prolific career, featuring in over 100 Malayalam and Tamil films during the 1970s and 1980s. His Tamil film debut came with K. Balachander's Avargal (1977), a film that starred Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Sujatha. This marked the beginning of his extensive career in South Indian cinema, where he quickly became known for his versatile acting.
In addition to his film career, Ravikumar also made significant contributions to television. His first appearance in the small screen came in 1997, when he starred in the popular Marmadesam series, Iyandhira Paravai for Raj TV.
He later appeared in Jannal: Marabu Kavithaigal for Sun TV, and more recently, Ravikumar was seen in an extended cameo in the TV show Kannedhirey Thondrinal on Kalaignar TV.
Over the years, Ravikumar’s roles in films such as Youth, Ramanaa, Lesa Lesa, Whistle, and CBI 5: The Brain further showcased his talent, making him a well-respected figure in the South Indian film industry. He was born to Malayalam film producer K M K Menon and actress Bharathi Menon, and his passing leaves behind a legacy of fine performances and enduring contributions to both Tamil and Malayalam cinema.
