Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi's war biopic Amaran shattered box office records in Tamil Nadu on its release day. Based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, the film has received widespread critical acclaim. On its opening day, coinciding with Diwali, it grossed Rs 21 crore net in India, marking the highest first-day earnings for any Sivakarthikeyan film to date.

On its opening day, Amaran recorded a net collection of Rs 21.65 crore in India and a worldwide collection of Rs 34 crore, which includes Rs 9 crore from overseas markets. The film's gross collection in India amounted to Rs 25 crore.

The film surpassed Dhanush's Raayan with its impressive opening day collection, now ranking as the fourth highest-grossing Tamil film opener of 2024. Despite facing tough competition from major releases like Lucky Baskhar, KA, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again, Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan alongside Sai Pallavi, has delivered one of the strongest opening-day performances for a Tamil film this year.

On its first day, Amaran achieved impressive occupancy rates in Tamil theaters, with 63.63% during morning shows, 81.74% in the afternoon, 82.36% for evening screenings, and peaking at 84.01% during the night shows.

Early estimates by trade analyst Sacnilk suggest that the movie is projected to gross between Rs 16-17 crores in Tamil Nadu, making it the highest opening for Sivakarthikeyan and the third biggest of 2024. Additionally, Amaran has started well in the Telugu states, with first-day earnings estimated at around Rs 4.50 crores.

Amaran generated significant buzz in advance ticket sales, marking one of the highest for a Tamil film this year. The strong pre-sales set the stage for a solid opening, and positive audience feedback led to robust spot bookings, further enhancing the overall collections.

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Amaran narrates the inspiring story of Major Mukund, an Ashok Chakra recipient celebrated for his bravery during a counterterrorism operation with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sivakarthikeyan stars as the lead, portraying the major, while Sai Pallavi takes on the role of his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film features a robust supporting cast that includes Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Shreekumar, and Shyam Mohan.
