Actor Gulshan Devaiah has voiced his support for filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s comments regarding the expenses tied to celebrity entourages.
In an interview with News18, Devaiah questioned why producers are only expressing concerns about these costs now, despite having previously accepted such expenditures. He pointed out that producers now face the challenge of recouping these significant expenses. He also said that producers are "faced with the challenge of creating that budget."
Gulshan Devaiah commented, “It’s possible that Anurag has encountered some actors with such demands in his experience. I was present when he made that statement, and he mentioned that there were producers willing to cover those costs. So why the sudden complaints now? They had been paying that amount for the last five films.
Now that they don’t want to spend that much, they’re voicing their concerns. It’s important to understand why this situation exists. While it’s true that not all actors demand high fees, only a few do. However, these actors should also consider being more reasonable.”
He added, “Sometimes it’s a trickle-down thing. They see other actors walking with five bodyguards and then they want six for themselves. Yes, we aren’t offered residual income or backend deals. I don’t know why everyone shies away from talking about it. Maybe because they’ve to open their books and show transparency in their accounts. But there are other ways to make money too. A few years back, producers must have thought that paying that money will be worth it. Maybe it’s not worth it anymore. Maybe they don’t have that spare ₹2 lakh to splurge on a chef."
On the work front, Gulshan Devaiah is preparing for his role in the upcoming spy-thriller Ulajh, which features Janhvi Kapoor and Roshan Mathew.
