Aamir Khan and Faisal Khan dispute: Know what exactly happened, timeline of family rift

The ongoing tension between Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his brother Faisal Khan has once again surfaced, drawing public and media attention. Over the years, the dispute has unfolded in phases marked by allegations, denials, and emotional appeals from the family.

Early career and collaboration

Faissal Khan began his career as a child artist in Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), playing the younger version of Shashi Kapoor. Later, he appeared briefly in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak alongside Aamir. The brothers worked together as leads in Mela (2000), but their professional paths diverged thereafter. Faisal later acted in films such as Border Hindustan Ka and Basti (2003).

Mid-2000s — First reports of strain

Reports of family disagreements emerged in the mid-2000s, with claims about Faisal’s mental health and his living arrangements. Allegations circulated that Faisal had been confined due to medical concerns, but these remained largely private at the time.

2022 — Public allegations resurface

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Faisal claimed he had been “caged” at Aamir’s house, likening the experience to imprisonment. He expressed his aversion to participating in Bigg Boss, citing mental stress and his dislike for restrictive environments. "They were saying I've got schizophrenia and I'm a mad person. I can harm society. Ye sab baatein ho rahi thi. I was looking at myself ki yaar main iss chakravyuh se kaise niklu. Chakravyuh ho gaya tha mere liye. Main usme fass gaya tha kyunki saari family mere khilaaf jaa rahi thi. Mujhe pagal samjh rahe the.”

"He was away from family politics. Lekin unn tak main pahuchu kaise? Unka number bhi nahi tha mere pass. Aur Aamir ne mujhe qaid kar diya tha ghar me ek saal. Mobile le liya, main bahar nahi jaa sakta. Bodyguard mere room ke bahar. Dawaiyan de rahe hain (How do I reach him? I didn't have his number. And Aamir had locked me inside the house for a year. My phone was taken, I couldn't go out. There were bodyguards outside my room. I was given medicine),” he added.

2024–2025 — Renewed controversy

During a recent appearance on the Pinkvilla podcast, Faisal repeated his claims — alleging that Aamir and the family kept him locked in a house for a year, labelled him schizophrenic, and had him admitted to JJ Hospital for 20 days in a general ward with psychiatric patients. He accused his family of damaging his “physical, mental, and financial health.”

Family’s joint statement

In response, Aamir Khan and an extended list of family members — including Zeenat Tahir Husain, Junaid Khan, Reena Datta, Kiran Rao, Mansoor Khan, Imran Khan, and others — issued a public statement. They expressed distress over Faisal’s “hurtful and misleading portrayal” of their mother Zeenat, sister Nikhat, and Aamir. The family emphasized that all decisions regarding Faisal had been taken collectively, in consultation with medical professionals, and with his well-being in mind. They urged the media to avoid turning a private matter into “salacious, inflammatory, and hurtful gossip.”
