With just three days left before its nationwide theatrical return, Boong — the BAFTA-winning Manipuri film — is gearing up for a wide release in cinemas across India on March 6, 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a new promotional poster shared by the makers, building excitement among audiences eager to see the film on the big screen after its global recognition.

Boong became the first Indian movie to win a British Academy Film Award in the Best Children’s & Family Film category at the 79th BAFTA Awards earlier this year — a landmark moment for Indian regional cinema.

The makers took to their social media handles to share the new poster with the caption, “The greatest gift is the one that lasts forever. Watch #Boong, the first Indian film ever to win the BAFTA Award, in cinemas from 6th March. #3DaysToGo.”

Directed and written by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong tells the heartfelt story of a young boy whose innocent quest to reunite his broken family becomes a powerful exploration of love, hope and resilience. The coming-of-age drama first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to screen at a number of prestigious international festivals, earning acclaim for its emotional depth and cultural authenticity.

Originally released in select cinemas in late 2025, the film’s BAFTA win sparked widespread praise from audiences, critics and industry figures alike, including congratulations from India’s Prime Minister, who called the achievement “a moment of immense joy” for both Manipur and the nation.

As anticipation builds ahead of the March 6 re-release, many viewers are looking forward to experiencing Boong again — or for the first time — in theatres.
