The BJD-BJP alliance witnessed success in two assembly elections and three Lok Sabha polls in Odisha.

The BJP will win 13 of the 21 seats in Odisha in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, News18's Mega Opinion Poll has revealed.

According to the survey, the Biju Patnaik-led BJD will win eight seats. It is said that the BJP and BJD will soon form an alliance. If that happens, the NDA will win all the 21 seats. The BJD quit NDA after the 2008 riots in Kandhamal district in which alleged Hindutva supporters had attacked Christians. Watch here.

The BJD bagged 12 of the 21 seats in 2019 and 20 in 2014. The BJP bagged eight in 2019 and one in 2014. For the upcoming polls, the BJD may agree to 13 Lok Sabha seats for itself and eight for the BJP.

Odisha

The BJD-BJP alliance witnessed success in two assembly elections and three Lok Sabha polls in Odisha. The partnership, which was forged in February 1998, enjoyed a strong foundation. Both parties successfully contested Lok Sabha elections in 1998, 1999, and 2004 and Assembly elections in 2000 and 2004.

BJP’s state unit president Manmohan Samal recently said his party will form the government in the state. “BJP will form the government in Odisha with the blessings of the people of Odisha. Odia Asmita (Odia pride) will be our key poll issue in the upcoming elections. People of the state will take responsibility to vote BJP to power,” Samal told the media.

The BJD will aim to use the alliance to curb the threat to Naveen Patnaik’s impending sixth term as Chief Minister of the state. Meanwhile, for the BJP, the 21 seats of Odisha will be key to attaining the goal of winning more than 400 seats for the NDA.

If the two parties now come together they will have the support of over 70 percent of Odisha's electorate, making them a formidable force.
