Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Monday dismissed claims of an 'ongoing fight' within the Mahayuti for the chief minister's position. Additionally, Shinde stated that within the Opposition formation-- Maha Vikas Agadi, personal ambitions for the top post supersede their desire to work for the people of the state.
In an exclusive interview to CNBC TV18, Shinde expressed confidence that the poll outcome will be in favour of the current ruling dispensation, as the government has prioritised 'welfare politics' over 'individual aspirations'. He further added that the Mahayuti will decide unanimously about its chief ministerial candidate after the declaration of the outcome on November 23.
Highlighting the fight for the top post within MVA, Shinde questioned if leaders harbour personal ambitions and are undecided on a common face, can the electors of the state be in a position to elect somebody to represent them?
State's ruling alliance, Mahayuti, appears set to return to power in the upcoming Assembly polls scheduled for November 20, according to an opinion poll conducted by survey agency Matrize. The survey, which gathered responses from over 109,000 participants between October 10 and November 9, forecasts a significant lead for the incumbent coalition.
The Matrize poll predicts that the Mahayuti could secure between 145 and 165 seats in the 288-member Assembly. In contrast, the opposition coalition, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), is projected to win approximately 106 to 126 seats.
The chief minister during a poll rally on November 5 outlined ten promises, including hiked support for poor women, pensioners, and farmers if the ruling Mahayuti is voted back to power.
