School Holidays 2024: The Bihar Education Department has announced the closure of all government schools from today, June 11, 2024, until June 15, 2024, due to a severe heatwave. This decision follows an earlier closure until June 8, prompted by extreme heat conditions that caused a large number of children to fall ill.
The department's order cites a forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), predicting that the heatwave conditions will persist in the state until June 14. As a precautionary measure, holidays will also be declared for teachers during this period. "Given the intense heatwave conditions prevailing in the state and the further warning issued by the IMD, the department has ordered the closure of all government-run schools in the state from June 11 to June 15," stated the order from the education department.
IMD's Patna Centre has issued an advisory urging residents to stay indoors as much as possible to avoid heat-related illnesses. On Monday, temperatures soared to 44 degrees Celsius in nine locations, with Buxar and Bhojpur recording a sweltering 45.9 degrees Celsius.
In response to similar heatwave conditions, the School Education and Literacy Department in Jharkhand has issued an order on June 9, modifying school timings. Classes for KG to standard 12 will now run from 7 am to 11:30 am until June 15. This change applies to all government, non-government aided, unaided, minority, and private institutions. Schools will revert to their pre-determined timings after June 15.
