The first week of September 2025 is a mix of unexpected rain holidays and planned festival breaks for students. Some states have closed schools due to heavy monsoon rains and floods. At the same time, many students are also enjoying holidays for festivals like Onam, Id-e-Milad and Teacher's Day. This means students should always check for updates from their local school or government.
Weather Holidays on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025
Heavy monsoon rains are causing some states to declare holidays to keep students safe.
Punjab: Schools are officially closed until 3rd September because of serious floods. The government first closed schools from 27th August and has extended the holiday. All schools must follow this order.
Kerala: Schools are already closed for the Onam festival until 7th September. However, the weather department has warned of heavy rain and strong winds from 3rd September in some areas. This might cause more problems.
Andhra Pradesh & Telangana: There is no full state holiday for 3rd September right now. But some districts have bad weather warnings. Schools in those areas might close, so parents should watch for local news.
Northern States (Like Himachal, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana): The weather is getting better in many hilly areas, but some local places might still be closed. Delhi and Haryana have not announced a holiday yet, but they might if the rain gets worse.
Festival Holidays in September 2025
Many fun festivals are coming up that will mean school holidays in different parts of India:
Onam: Schools in Kerala will be closed on 4th and 5th September.
Id-e-Milad & Teacher’s Day: Many states will have holidays from 5th to 6th September for Id-e-Milad. This is around the same time as Teacher's Day (5th September).
Durga Puja: A big holiday for many eastern states like West Bengal and Odisha will be around 29th-30th September.
Lately, two things are causing schools to close: heavy monsoon rains for safety and many September festivals. Many schools are planning online classes or extra days later to make up for the lost time.
